big timber Creek

The entrance to Big Timber Creek is separated from the Delaware River by a peninsula enclosing a sizable shallow basin with a narrow channel running through it. This channel provides the marinas of Westville and Brooklawn with powerboat access to the Delaware River. The creek narrows and passes under several bridges to reveal the towns on opposite banks overlooking spatterdock fields. Upstream the stream is charming, alternating small towns with wooded banks and wetlands. There are also old industrial sites and retired landfills now covered with vegetation. As with so many other regions’ waterways, nature is just beginning to paper over a history of industrialization, bringing hope of a steadily improving watershed.
