Lower Schuylkill

The lower Schuylkill extends from the Fairmount Dam to the Delaware River and has been an industrial urban river for a long time. It is a river of highways, rail yards, bridges, a retired refinery, power plants, shipping terminals and shipyards. There are overgrown areas, and the historic gem that is Bartram Gardens. The paddler will see Philadelphia in a completely new way, gritty and beautiful. Here nature shows how indomitable she really is. Near the mouth of the river there is considerable barge and tug activity.
