maurice river
The Maurice River is nationally designated a “Wild and Scenic River System” and does live up to the name. Eventually, most of the River will be covered here. This exploration extends from Mauricetown to a bit past Port Elizabeth on the Manumuskin River, a tributary of the Maurice. Phragmites dominate this stretch of the Maurice, but the indigenous marsh grasses can be found on the Manumuskin. This area has seen former economic glories fade with the demise of the Delaware Oyster beds, reflected in the remaining villages’ state.
The rivers live up to their wild and scenic designation, and the fisheries show signs of recovery.
